SUMMARY:Day 3 — Pinnawala elephant day trip
DESCRIPTION:1. Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage (2-3 hours) — 90-minute drive w
est. Time it for the river bath at 10am or 2pm — the whole herd walks down
the village street to the Maha Oya river. The orphanage is government-run
\; the larger 'Millennium' facility next door is private and pricier.\n\n2
. Millennium Elephant Foundation (optional) (1 hour) — Smaller sanctuary 1
km from the main orphanage\; offers more direct interaction. Skip if you
prefer to keep distance from working elephants.\n\n3. Lunch at Hotel Pinna
landa (1 hour) — Right by the river\, decent buffet\, view of the herd fro
m the deck. Touristy but convenient. Budget Rs 2\,500-3\,500 per person.\n
\n4. Return to Kandy via Kegalle (30 min stop) — Drive back via the spice-
garden strip if you want to pick up cinnamon\, cardamom\, or curry mixes.
Most spice gardens offer free walking tours hoping for a purchase — no pre
 ssure.\n\nFull itinerary: https://induwara.lk/tools/trip-planner/kandy-3-d
