Who I am

My name is Induwara Ashinsana. I'm a Sri Lankan student and software engineer. By day I'm studying Information Systems at the University of Colombo School of Computing — UCSC's degree programme that combines computer science with business and information management. Outside class I lead engineering as Executive Director at Ryzera Technologies, a small Sri Lanka–based team that builds products and internal tooling for clients across South Asia.

Why induwara.lk exists

Most Sri Lankans I know have, at some point, opened a sketchy-looking calculator with three banner ads to figure out their PAYE — and then double-checked it against a friend, just in case. I started building induwara.lk to fix that for the calculators I personally use most: tax, EPF, EMI, FD yield, GPA, vehicle revenue licence, NIC validator. The bar I've set is simple — every tool should be the most accurate, fastest, and quietest version of itself online.

Brackets and rates come from the relevant authority (Inland Revenue Department, University Grants Commission, Central Bank of Sri Lanka, Customs, RMV). Calculation methodology and the source are shown on every tool page so you can verify the math yourself. There are no accounts to create, no popups, no ads. The site is built and maintained from Sri Lanka, on a single VPS, in the open.

Running it is not free, though: a server, a domain, transactional email, and the model calls behind the AI tools all cost money every month. That is covered by optional memberships and contributions from people who find the tools useful — never by selling your attention or your data. If a rate here is wrong, it is my mistake, not someone's sponsorship.

How this site is built

Worth being straight about, because it is unusual: induwara.lk is built with heavy help from AI. An automated pipeline proposes tools, writes the first draft of the calculation module and the page around it, and runs the type checks, linting and build before anything can ship. That is how one person maintains several hundred tools.

What that does not mean is that nobody is accountable for it. Every calculator is written against a named official source — Inland Revenue, the Central Bank, the UGC, Customs, the RMV — with the date it was last verified printed on the page, and where a source is unclear the pipeline is required to stop and ask me rather than guess. When something is wrong, it is my error to fix, and telling me is the fastest way to get it corrected.

How much of that I see before it publishes depends on what it is, and it is worth being exact rather than reassuring:

• Tools and their data.Each figure is researched against the official source named in the page's methodology section and carries the date it was last checked against that source. I go through the tools and their sources myself, and a tool whose source I cannot pin down does not ship.
• Blog posts. These are AI-drafted and checked by an automated reviewer that can reject or hold a draft. I do not read every post before it goes out. Treat the blog as what it is — a machine-written feed with a machine checking it — not as edited writing.
• News posts. Every news item is drafted with its sources listed, then sits in a queue until I approve it by hand. Nothing reaches /news without that.

Errors that reached a live page are listed on the corrections page, with what the page said before, what it says now, and the document that settled it. That list includes a case where a “verified” table of exam cut-offs turned out to be invented. It is public because a site that publishes numbers at this volume and has never had to correct one is not being straight with you.

The figures behind the Sri Lanka tools are also available as files, on the open data page. Each one names who published it, where it was transcribed from, and the date it was last checked — so you can verify a number without taking my word for it.
