1. Grade 6 national-school admission cut-off marks (2025 exam, 2026 admission)

   The Ministry of Education's complete list of 302 national schools and the minimum Grade 5 Scholarship mark that secured a Grade 6 place at each, under the merit quota.

   Column	What it holds
   census_no	The Ministry's school census number, as printed. The stable identifier.
   name	English name, the conventional one where the school has one.
   name_si	The Sinhala name exactly as printed, for Sinhala-medium rows.
   city	Address as printed, romanised.
   district	Derived from the printed address — the source does not print a district column.
   gender	Boys, Girls or Mixed.
   medium	Sinhala or Tamil.
   cutoff	Minimum mark out of 200 that secured a place.
   note	Transcription note where the source and reality disagree.

   Before you use it

   • The Ministry publishes this as a scan with no text layer. Every row here was typed by hand from two independently obtained copies of the same release and read back by a second person.
   • A census number can appear twice, once per medium. Use census_no together with medium as the key, not census_no alone.
   • The district column is ours, derived from the printed address. The Ministry does not print one.
   • These are last year's figures until the next release. They are not a prediction of the next intake, and no predicted cut-off is published here or anywhere on this site.

2. Grade 5 Scholarship district cut-off marks (2024, 2025, 2026)

   The Department of Examinations' published district pass mark for the Grade 5 Scholarship Examination, per district, per medium, per exam year.

   exam_year	The year the paper was sat.
   exam_label	When the paper was sat, as the Department describes it.
   district	One of the 25 administrative districts, in the Department's published order.
   sinhala_cutoff	Sinhala-medium cut-off out of 200. Blank means the Department published none.
   tamil_cutoff	Tamil-medium cut-off out of 200. Blank means the Department published none.
   source_url	Where that year's figures were transcribed from.

   Before you use it

   • A blank cut-off is 'not published', never zero and never a guess. Some districts have no candidates in one medium.
   • These are district PASS marks. They are not the mark needed for a place at a named school — that is the Grade 6 school list.
   • The Department of Examinations publishes these figures, but it did not publish a document for every year here in time. Only the 2025 row set was transcribed from a Department PDF; 2026 and 2024 were transcribed from media tables carrying the full 25-district list, corroborated across several outlets. The link beside each year says which it was, and each year's own source is carried in the CSV's source_url column.

3. Sri Lanka public, bank and mercantile holidays (2026 and 2027)

   Every gazetted holiday for 2026 and 2027, with which of the three calendars observes it and the English, Sinhala and Tamil names.

   Before you use it

   • Poya dates are astronomical and a gazette occasionally moves one. Confirm against the gazette for the year before you build a payroll or a contract on it.
   • Where two holidays fall on the same day they are one row, because it is one day off work.

4. University admission cut-off Z-scores — 2025/2026 (official UGC release, 1 August 2026)

   The minimum Z-score for each covered state-university course, by quota: the all-island merit cut-off, each district's cut-off, and the educationally-disadvantaged-district cut-off.

   course_id	Stable id used by this site's tools.
   course	Programme name.
   university	The university offering it.
   streams	A/L streams that may apply, separated by a semicolon.
   requires_cgt	yes/no — whether the Common General Test counts for this course.
   quota	merit, district or edd.
   district	The district, for quota=district. Blank for merit and edd.
   cutoff_z	Minimum Z-score. 'not published' where no candidate qualified from that district in this cycle.

   Before you use it

   • Coverage is 29 of the highest-demand programmes, not the whole handbook, which lists about 180.
   • 'not published' means the UGC reported no qualifying candidate from that district for that course in that cycle. It is not a zero and not a missing value to impute.
   • A cycle's cut-offs depend on that year's candidate distribution. They do not forecast the next cycle.

5. Sri Lanka Railways ordinary fare bands by distance

   The ordinary (unreserved) ticket price Sri Lanka Railways charges in 1st, 2nd and 3rd class, for each band of rail distance.

   Before you use it

   • Ordinary, unreserved fares only. A reserved seat on an intercity, express or night-mail train, and the Observation Saloon, are charged separately by SLR.
   • Derived from SLR's published station-to-station tables (Sri Lanka Railways published Passenger Ticket Rates (List of Ticket Fare and Charges)). Distances are rail distances, not road distances.

6. Sri Lanka vehicle number plate province codes

   The two-letter province identifier that prefixes a Sri Lankan number plate issued before 2023, and the province each one stands for.

   Before you use it

   • From 1 January 2023 new issues omit the province prefix, so a plate without one is not an error.
   • Sabaragamuwa appears under two codes (SG and SB), both of which have been issued.
   • The year a plate series was issued is NOT in this file. Our year estimate is calibrated from a handful of dated anchors and is deliberately not published as data — see /data for why.
