English Test Score Converter — IELTS, TOEFL, PTE, Duolingo & CEFR
Enter a score on any one English proficiency test and see its official equivalent on the others — IELTS ⇄ TOEFL iBT ⇄ PTE Academic ⇄ Duolingo ⇄ CEFR. Every mapping uses the provider's own concordance table, shown as ranges, with sources cited. No signup, no ads.
How it works
There is no single physics that links these tests — each is scored on its own scale (IELTS 0–9, TOEFL iBT 0–120, PTE Academic 10–90, Duolingo 10–160, CEFR A1–C2). What exists is a set of concordance tables: each provider has statistically linked its own scale to the others, most commonly to IELTS. This tool uses IELTS band as the common anchor because every other provider publishes an official IELTS concordance.
- Normalise to an IELTS band.If you enter IELTS, that band is used directly. If you enter TOEFL, PTE, or Duolingo, the tool looks up the provider's published row that contains your score — for example ETS maps TOEFL iBT 94–101 to IELTS 7.0, and Pearson maps PTE 65 to IELTS 7.0. A CEFR level maps to the IELTS band range for that level (C1 = IELTS 7.0–8.0).
- Project the anchor band back out. Using the same provider tables in reverse, the tool returns the equivalent on every other scale — a single value where the table is one-to-one (PTE 65) and a range where a band maps to several scores (TOEFL 94–101 for IELTS 7.0).
- Read the CEFR level. The Council of Europe framework is carried alongside every result: C2 ≈ IELTS 8.5–9.0, C1 ≈ 7.0–8.0, B2 ≈ 5.5–6.5, B1 ≈ 4.5–5.0. Each result shows the one-line Council-of-Europe descriptor for that level.
No value is interpolated or invented between published rows. Where a provider only publishes banded ranges, the tool shows the range rather than a false-precision single number — because the providers themselves label these tables approximate. When a score falls between two published bands, the tool snaps to the nearest anchor band and flags the result as approximate. Three published worked examples are re-checked against the source tables at build time as a self-test (verifyWorkedExamples()), and a round-trip check confirms the forward and reverse tables agree.
