Police Station Contact Numbers Sri Lanka

There is no arithmetic on this page. There is a transcription and a matching rule, and the page is worth using only if both are exactly what the Sri Lanka Police publish. So both are written out here.

The transcription

Every row comes from the Sri Lanka Police station directory at police.lk/police-stations, parsed on 2026-09-25: 608 stations across 47 police divisions and all 9provinces. Each record keeps the station name in the Police's own spelling, its division, its province, the officer-in-charge's service mobile and the station landline. Phone numbers are stored exactly as published; the dial link strips the hyphen and puts the number in international form so it still works from a phone abroad.

The directory does not publish a number for every station. 601 of 608 list a mobile and 386list a landline; the column reads "-" for the rest. Those render as "No landline published" rather than as a blank or a zero, because a blank looks like a bug in this page and a zero looks like a number.

The matching rule

Your query and every searchable field are put through the same normalisation — lowercase → NFKD → strip everything but letters and digits — so "Mt. Lavinia", "mount lavinia" and "MountLavinia" collapse onto one key. A station matches if that key appears in its name, in one of its curated alternate spellings, in its division, or in its province. Results are ranked: exact name first, then name-starts-with, then name-contains, then alias, then division, then province, with ties broken alphabetically. The province and division dropdowns intersect with the query rather than replacing it.

The alternate-spelling table exists because the Police's romanisation is often not the one people type. The directory spells Pettah Pettha, Negombo Negambo, Mount Lavinia Mt Laviniya and Ampara Amapara. The aliases are additive: they let your spelling find the record, and the card then shows you the official one, which is the spelling an application form will be checked against.

What this page will not tell you

It will not tell you which station has authority over your address. The directory publishes a station's division, not the boundary of the area it polices, so any "this is your station" claim would be invented. For the same reason there is no map and no "nearest to me": the source carries no coordinates. Find the station by name, ring it, and ask whether your address falls in its area before you travel — that one call saves a wasted trip far more often than a map pin would.

How the page checks itself

Seven rows were copied by hand off the directory and kept separate from the generated table. On every render the page re-reads those seven stations out of the live data and compares all five fields, and the badge in the calculator header reports the result. The station, division and province counts quoted in this text are counted from the table too, not typed, so a data update cannot leave the prose saying something the rows disagree with.

These seven rows were read off the Sri Lanka Police directory by hand on 2026-09-25 and are re-compared against the live table on every render. If a future re-transcription shifts a column, these disagree and the badge on the tool turns red.
