Dates already past are greyed. The Treasury date is when funds are released; your bank may credit the account later the same day.

Every date above is transcribed from the General Treasury's own signed circular for 2026, dated 11 Sep 2025. Open the 2026 circular (PDF)

One slip in the 2026 circular. The 2026 circular prints 'Wednesday' against the 10 July pension date. 10 July 2026 is a Friday, and the same row's salary-advance cell prints 'Friday' for the same date. The day number (10) is taken as correct and the weekday label as a slip in the circular.

How it works

This page is a transcription, not a calculation. No formula produces a Sri Lankan government payday: the General Treasury decides the dates a year ahead and publishes them as one trilingual table. Every day number here is read off the Treasury's own signed document.

Where the dates come from

The schedule is issued by the Department of Treasury Operations, not, as is often assumed, by the Department of Pensions, which administers pensions but does not set the payment calendar. Each year's table appears on treasury.gov.lk under Guidelines 02/2020, signed by the Director General, with five money columns:

  • Government servant: salary advance, වැටුප් අත්තිකාරම්
  • Government servant: salary, වැටුප
  • Armed forces: salary, ත්‍රිවිධ හමුදා වැටුප
  • Teacher service: salary, ගුරු සේවය වැටුප
  • Pension payment, විශ්‍රාම වැටුප

Government servants occupy two of those columns, because the Treasury schedules their salary advance and their salary as separate payments on different days of the same month.

How the transcription is checked

Both circulars are scanned images with no text layer, so every cell was read by eye, exactly the work that produces silent off-by-one errors. The check is mechanical: each cell prints a day number and a weekday, which makes the weekday a built-in checksum. The data module recomputes the true Gregorian weekday of every date and compares it with the printed one. Across 2026 and 2027 that is 120 cells, of which 119 agree.

The one that does not is a slip in the 2026circular itself, and this page says so rather than quietly correcting it: the July pension cell prints “10 / Wednesday”, but 10 July 2026 is a Friday, and the salary-advance cell on the same row prints “Friday” for that same date. The day number is treated as authoritative. Each weekday is computed twice over, by the platform date engine and by Zeller's congruence, so a disagreement would surface rather than propagate.

The countdown

“Today” is computed in Asia/Colombo, never in UTC or the server's own timezone, Sri Lanka runs five and a half hours ahead of UTC, so a UTC-based “today” is wrong for part of every day, payday included. A payment falling today reads “today”, not “in 0 days”. Once 2027 is exhausted the tool says the 2028schedule is unpublished rather than extrapolating: the Treasury's calendar is a decision, not a pattern.

Why some months pay early

Each category has a usual day, the 10th for the salary advance and the pension, the 25th for the government servants' salary, the 21st for the armed forces, the 20th for the teachers' service. The note column works out why a month departs from it. Most departures are weekend shifts: the usual day falls on a Saturday or Sunday, so the payment moves to the working day before. The rest are deliberate advances, two of which recur every year, April, ahead of the Sinhala and Tamil New Year, and December, ahead of Christmas. The circular states no reason for any date, so the page separates what the calendar shows from what it cannot know.

Worked examples

A government teacher checking a standing order

Teacher service · 2 October 2026

  1. Category: teacher service. October 2026 teacher date = 20th.
  2. 20 October 2026 → Tuesday (the circular prints Tuesday ✓).
  3. The 20th has not passed, so the next payday is in this month.
  4. Days to go: 20 − 2 = 18.
  5. Answer: Tuesday, 20 October 2026, in 18 days.
  6. A leasing instalment on the 22nd has two days of room. The margin is not the same every month, and not the same for everyone in the house: in December the teacher is paid on the 18th and has four days of room, while a government servant's salary lands on the 22nd itself, same day as the order.

A government servant over the year boundary

Government servant · 24 December 2026

  1. December 2026: advance on the 10th (past), salary on the 22nd (past).
  2. The 22nd is three days before the usual 25th, 25 December 2026 is a working Friday, so this is the Christmas advance, not a weekend shift.
  3. Nothing is left in 2026, so the walk rolls into 2027, which is published.
  4. 2027 starts with the salary advance on 8 January → Friday.
  5. Days to go: 7 (to 31 December) + 8 = 15.
  6. Answer: Friday, 8 January 2027, in 15 days. The salary follows on Monday, 25 January 2027, 32 days out.
  7. Answering '25 January, in 32 days' here would be wrong for the category: government servants get the advance first.

A pensioner in New Year month

Pensioner · 1 April 2026

  1. Pensions usually fall on the 10th. April 2026's pension date is the 9th.
  2. 10 April 2026 is a working Friday, so the move is not a weekend shift. It is the New Year advance.
  3. 9 April 2026 → Thursday (the circular prints Thursday ✓).
  4. Days to go: 9 − 1 = 8.
  5. Answer: Thursday, 9 April 2026, in 8 days.
  6. April is also the one month where a government servant's advance and salary land on the same day (both 9 April 2026) instead of the usual 10th and 25th.

Edge case, running off the end of the published schedule

Pensioner · 11 December 2027

  1. December 2027's pension date is the 10th, which has passed.
  2. No month is left in 2027, and 2028 is not published.
  3. The pension has fallen on the 10th in most months for two years running, so extrapolating would look safe.
  4. It is not: the tool returns 'schedule not published' and links to the Treasury index instead of inventing 10 January 2028.

Both PDFs were downloaded from treasury.gov.lk and re-read cell by cell on 2026-10-02. Aggregator reproductions of these tables circulate widely; none of them is used here. This page is reviewed each September, when the Treasury publishes the following year's schedule, and whenever a correction is issued.

Out of scope on purpose: salary and pension amounts(see the related calculators below), the annual pensioners' life certificate deadline, which the Department of Pensions sets, and provincial council, statutory board and private-sector payroll calendars, which this circular does not cover.
