Sri Lanka Voter Eligibility & Registration Checker

The checker applies the deterministic franchise rules in the Constitution of Sri Lanka and the Registration of Electors Act No. 44 of 1980. Nothing is estimated — every branch maps to a specific Article or section, and the same answer follows from the same inputs.

1. Qualifying date. For the register year Y the qualifying date is 1 June Y. Age and residence are both tested on this date — not on election day.
2. Age on the qualifying date. The tool takes the exact calendar difference between 1 June Y and your date of birth. You are treated as 18 from your 18th birthday inclusive. To be safe, it also computes the same test a second way — comparing your 18th birthday directly to 1 June — and flags any disagreement.
3. Franchise test (Article 88). You can be registered when all of these hold: you are a citizen of Sri Lanka, you are 18 or over on the qualifying date, you are resident in Sri Lanka on that date, and no Article 89 disqualification applies.
4. Disqualifications (Article 89). Any one of these makes you not qualified for that register: being declared of unsound mind by a competent court; serving, or being sentenced within the preceding 7 years to, imprisonment over 6 months; or being convicted within the preceding 7 years of an election offence or an offence under the Bribery Act. For the two time-bound grounds, the disqualification lapses 7 years after the sentence or conviction date.
5. Under-age path. If you are a citizen and not disqualified but under 18 on the qualifying date, the tool searches forward one register year at a time and returns the first year whose 1 June you are 18 on — that is the first register you appear on.
6. Non-citizen path. Only citizens may be registered (Article 88), so a non-citizen is reported as not eligible with no age computation.

Residence and the disqualification facts are self-declared — the tool states each rule and your own answers decide the branch. It does not query any government database, so use it to understand the rules, then confirm your name through the annual enumeration or at elections.gov.lk.
