Who is eligible for Agrahara insurance in Sri Lanka?

How do I check my Agrahara membership number online?

Log in to the NITF member portal at nitf.lk with the username and password you set during registration. Your membership number appears on your dashboard and on your downloadable e-card. What is the difference between Agrahara Normal, Silver, Gold, and Pension?

How do I check my Agrahara claim status online?

After submitting a claim, log in to nitf.lk and go to 'Claims' in your dashboard. Enter your claim reference number to see the status (Submitted, Under Review, Approved, Paid). You can also call the NITF helpline. Note: this website's Agrahara calculator estimates what you are entitled to — it cannot access your actual claim record at NITF.

Can I register for Agrahara if I am a pensioner?

Yes. Retired government servants register under the Pension tier. You will need your pension file number from your pension book, your NIC, and a recent bank statement. The premium is deducted from your monthly pension by the Department of Pensions.

What documents do I need to register for Agrahara?

You need: your NIC (old 9-digit or new 12-digit), your appointment/confirmation letter, a recent pay slip or salary certificate, a passport-size photograph, and your bank account details. Pensioners need their pension file number instead of a salary certificate.

Is the Agrahara registration portal available in Sinhala?

The NITF portal (nitf.lk) is primarily in English. However, NITF district offices can assist with in-person registration in Sinhala or Tamil. Your divisional secretariat can also provide guidance on registration.

How much is the Agrahara monthly premium?

Who Can Register for Agrahara?

Confirmed government servants (permanent employees)

Private sector employees are not eligible. Contract employees who are not yet confirmed in service are also not eligible until confirmed.

How to Register — Step by Step

The whole process takes about 15–20 minutes if you have your documents ready.

Check your eligibility

Agrahara is open to all confirmed government servants and pensioners of the Government of Sri Lanka. This includes employees of government ministries, departments, provincial councils, local authorities, and state universities. Contract employees who have been confirmed in service also qualify. If you are retired (a pensioner), you register under the Pension tier.

Gather the required documents

You will need: (1) Your National Identity Card (NIC) — new 12-digit or old 9-digit both accepted. (2) Your government service appointment letter or confirmation letter. (3) Your salary certificate or pay slip showing your designation and department. (4) A recent photograph (passport size). (5) Your bank account details — a government-approved bank account in your name.

Go to the NITF Agrahara portal

Visit the official NITF website at nitf.lk and click "Member Signup" or go directly to the registration page. The portal is available 24 hours a day. Use a computer or a smartphone with a stable internet connection.

Fill in your personal details

Enter your NIC number — the system will verify it against the Department of Registration of Persons database. Fill in your full name (as on your NIC), date of birth, mobile number, and email address. Set a strong password. Double-check everything before continuing.

Enter your service details

Select your ministry or department from the dropdown list. Enter your employee number (this is on your appointment letter or pay slip). Select your service grade. If you are a pensioner, select the Pension tier and enter your pension file number from your pension book.

Select your Agrahara tier

Choose your membership tier: Normal, Silver, Gold, or Pension. Gold gives the highest coverage — up to Rs 1,000,000 per claim for surgery — but has a higher monthly premium. If you are unsure, use the Agrahara Claim Calculator below to compare what each tier would pay for common treatments.

Pay the premium

The monthly premium is deducted automatically from your salary by your department's pay office after registration. You do not need to pay anything manually at this stage. Pensioners' premiums are deducted from the pension.

Receive your membership card

Once approved, NITF will send a confirmation to your email and mobile number. You can download your Agrahara e-card from the NITF portal. The card shows your membership number, tier, and coverage period. Keep a screenshot of this card on your phone — hospitals ask for it at admission.
