Hong Kong QMAS Points Test Calculator

The Quality Migrant Admission Scheme (QMAS) is Hong Kong's talent-migration route for people who want to settle there without a prior job offer. Effective 1 November 2024, the Immigration Department replaced the old weighted 245-point General Points Test with a simpler binary test: you either meet a criterion or you do not, and each met criterion is worth exactly one point. Older calculators that still add up weighted points are now wrong.

Assessment has two stages. First, a prerequisite gate.Four conditions are mandatory — you must be aged 18 or above, able to support yourself and your dependants without public assistance, free of any criminal or adverse immigration record, and hold a first degree from a recognised university (or an equivalent professional qualification). If any one of these is unmet, you cannot apply, no matter how many criteria you meet, and this tool returns “not eligible to apply” while naming the blocking prerequisite.

Second, the 12-criteria count across six aspects. Aspect A (Age): one point if you are 50or below. Aspect B (Academic qualifications): one point for a master's or doctoral degree, and a second point if that postgraduate degree is in a STEM field — a STEM bachelor's earns neither, so the calculator only counts the STEM point once a postgraduate qualification is selected. Aspect C (Language): one point for written-and-spoken proficiency in two languages, and one for English. Aspect D (Work experience): separate points for five or more years of graduate/specialist experience, three or more years at multinationals or reputable enterprises, three or more years in innovation & technology, finance or international trade, and two or more years of internationally-exposed work. Aspect E (Income): one point for annual income of at least HK$1,000,000 or the foreign-currency equivalent. Aspect F (Business ownership): one point for owning a business with annual profit of at least HK$5 million, and one for owning a listed company.

The total is simply the sum of met criteria. If all four prerequisites are met and the total is 6 or more, you pass the General Points Test and may submit an application. To keep the arithmetic trustworthy, the tool computes the count twice — once as a flat list and once as an independent sum of the six per-aspect subtotals — and flags any disagreement. There is no annual quota under the enhanced route, but passing the points test is not a guarantee of selection: the Immigration Department makes the final decision.
