How This Works
This tool fetches the mid-market exchange rate — the midpoint between the price banks buy and sell currency at — every hour from open.er-api.com, which aggregates rates from central bank reference feeds worldwide. The Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) publishes its own daily indicative LKR rates, which this feed closely tracks.
Why the rate you see here differs from your bank: Banks and money transfer operators add a margin (usually 1–4%) on top of the mid-market rate and may charge a fixed fee. Use this page as a benchmark — if your bank offers Rs 88 for 1 AED and this page shows Rs 91, the bank is keeping the Rs 3 difference as their margin.

How the 30-day trend is built: one mid-market snapshot is stored per calendar day, in UTC, for each currency on this page. Snapshots are USD-based, so the rupee price of any currency comes from the cross-rate LKR per 1 X = (LKR per USD) ÷ (X per USD). With 1 USD at Rs 334.29 and 1 USD at 3.6725 AED, for example, 1 AED = 334.29 ÷ 3.6725 = Rs 91.02. That identity is why the dirham, riyal and Saudi riyal always move together against the rupee: all three are pegged to the dollar, so their rupee price tracks USD/LKR almost exactly.
The change figure is the plain return over the window, (last − first) ÷ first. Before it is displayed it is recomputed a second way — through the inverse quote, as 1 ÷ (1 + (first ÷ last − 1)) − 1 — and the two must agree. The two formulas are algebraically the same but arrive by different routes, so a reversed series or a swapped baseline shows up as a disagreement instead of as a confident wrong number. Movements below 0.05% are reported as flat rather than as a direction, because that is roughly the noise floor of a mid-market feed.
