How it works
The Open University of Sri Lanka is the country's only open-entry state university, and the largest by enrolment. Admission is not by z-score or merit list: each programme publishes its own entry rule, and if you satisfy that rule you can apply. The problem is that those rules live on 158 separate programme pages, written in prospectus language, and the official directory will not tell you which ones you clear. This tool reads them the other way round — from your results to the programme.
Every programme record here was transcribed from its own page on ou.ac.lk: the level, the department, the duration, the course fee, the application fee and the published application dates. The Admission or Entry Requirements section of that page is the sole basis for the rule encoded against it. Of the 158 programmes listed, 146 publish an entry rule and 134 publish a fee. Where a page publishes neither, the row says so rather than inventing one.
The rule engine
OUSL wording follows a consistent shape: several requirements joined by AND, each of which can be met by any one of several alternatives joined by OR. The Bachelor of Pharmacy, for instance, reads as three requirements — three A/L passes in one sitting in the Science stream, and a credit pass in A/L Chemistry, and a simple pass in O/L English. The Bachelor of Management Studies reads as two — eighteen years of age, and one of (three A/L passes in one sitting, an OUSL Foundation programme of 60 credits, an OUSL Advanced Certificate carrying 30 SLQF Level 2 credits).
The engine encodes each alternative as a clause and evaluates it against your profile. A requirement is satisfied when any one clause holds; the programme is open when every requirement is satisfied. Grades use the G.C.E. scale A > B > C > S > W, and a subject clause passes when your grade is at or above the one named. Where OUSL adds “or an equivalent qualification acceptable to the Senate”, that clause never counts as an automatic pass — it is real, but it is a discretionary decision, so the row flags it instead.
Bridging routes
A route is only offered when a single OUSL qualification would clear everyrequirement you currently fail. An O/L-only applicant fails both of the engineering degree's requirements, but the Advanced Certificate in Science is listed as an alternative in both, so the route is real and the tool draws it. An A/L Arts applicant fails the Bachelor of Pharmacy on two separate counts — the Science-stream sitting and the Chemistry grade — and no Foundation course fixes both, so no route is claimed. That restraint is the point: a fake route costs a student a year.
Fees
Fees are shown exactly as ou.ac.lk states them, with the basis attached. Some programmes publish a single total, some a yearly figure, some a per-credit rate, and some separate figures for each exit award. A total is computed only where the published figure is a total or a yearly rate with a stated duration — a per-credit rate never produces an invented total, because the answer depends on how many credits you register for each year. Nothing here is indexed or forecast.
Cross-checking
Every decision is made twice. One procedure walks the requirement tree and short-circuits; a second collects the set of clauses you satisfy across the whole registry and intersects it with each requirement. Both run over every programme against six reference learner profiles — including an empty profile and one with deliberately out-of-range numbers — and the count of disagreements is printed inside the tool. It should always be zero.
