Already on your ticket?

Most airlines flying out of Sri Lanka collect both the Embarkation Levy and the PSC at booking and remit them to AASL. Look for codes OD (Embarkation Levy) and YQ/YR or CMB(Passenger Service Charge) on your e-ticket's tax breakdown.

How it works

Two separate charges make up the “taxes & charges” line on a Sri Lankan international ticket. Both are computed per-passenger in US dollars and then converted to rupees at the airline's booking-day exchange rate. This tool lets you replicate that calculation with your own inputs.

  1. Classify the passenger. The Embarkation Levy Act, No. 19 of 1992 (section 3) exempts infants under two, transit passengers continuing within 24 hours, aircraft crew on duty, and accredited diplomats. Everyone else pays.
  2. Apply the Embarkation Levy. The current rate set by Treasury order is USD 60 for adult international passengers, USD 30 for adult SAARC-region passengers, and USD 30 for children aged 2–11. The levy is collected by the airline and remitted to Airport & Aviation Services (Sri Lanka) Ltd.
  3. Apply the Passenger Service Charge. The PSC is an AASL airport-services tariff, not a tax. It is USD 18 for adult international, USD 12 for adult SAARC, and USD 9 for children aged 2–11. The same figures apply at Bandaranaike (CMB) and Mattala (HRI).
  4. Aggregate across the party. Sum levy + PSC per passenger, then multiply by the number of passengers in the category to get the USD total.
  5. Convert to LKR.Multiply by the USD-to-LKR rate. Airlines issuing tickets in rupees use the Central Bank of Sri Lanka indicative rate on the day of issue, which is why your ticket's rupee amount may differ slightly from a quote made yesterday.

The Embarkation Levy is the statutory tax under Act No. 19 of 1992. The Passenger Service Charge is a separate, airport-services line governed by AASL's published tariff schedule. The calculator checks the per-line sum against the AASL aggregate formula pax × (levy + PSC) × FX and flags any mismatch. Both rates last verified on 2026-05-16 against the AASL tariff page and a sample CMB → LHR economy itinerary on SriLankan Airlines.
