How much is parking at Katunayake airport per hour?

It depends on the car park. Terminal Car Park No. 1 and New Departure Car Park No. 4 charge a car Rs 350 for the first hour, Rs 250 for the second and Rs 150 for every hour after that. Remote Car Park No. 2, BOI Car Park No. 3 and Car Park No. 05 charge a car Rs 200 for the first three hours together, then Rs 50 an hour.

How much does it cost to go inside the BIA arrival lobby?

Rs 500 per person. A page-in board is a further Rs 300 per board. The departure lobby is also Rs 500 per person. These are per head, not per vehicle — three people meeting one passenger pay Rs 1,500 on top of whatever the car pays at the barrier.

Which BIA car park is cheapest for a long stay?

Remote Car Park No. 2 on Minuwangoda Road, about 300 m from the terminal. A car left for 72 hours costs Rs 3,650 there against Rs 11,100 in Terminal Car Park No. 1 — a difference of Rs 7,450 for the same three days. BOI Car Park No. 3 and Car Park No. 05 publish the same car rates as the remote park.

Can visitors enter the BIA departure lobby at night?

Not on Thursday or Saturday between 10:00 p.m. and midnight. AASL publishes a standing notice that visitor entry to the departure lobby is not facilitated during those peak hours to manage congestion. Outside that window the Rs 500 per-person entry applies as normal, and the arrival lobby is not covered by the restriction.

Is there a daily maximum on Bandaranaike airport parking?

AASL publishes no daily cap for any BIA car park. The hourly rate keeps running for as long as the vehicle is inside, which is why a week in the terminal park reaches five figures. Before leaving a car for several days, confirm the figure at the car park counter.

Does a part hour count as a full hour at BIA?

Yes. Every band in the AASL tariff is written as "or part thereof", so a 2 hour 20 minute wait is billed as three hours. In the block-priced car parks only the time past the first three hours rounds up — a stay of exactly three hours pays the Rs 200 block and nothing more, and three hours and one minute pays Rs 250.

What does a van or jeep pay at the BIA terminal car park?

Terminal Car Park No. 1 and New Departure Car Park No. 4 price a van, double cab or jeep at Rs 500 for the first hour, Rs 300 for the second, then Rs 200 an hour. Remote Car Park No. 2 and BOI Car Park No. 3 put vans on the same Rs 200 / Rs 50 row as cars and three-wheelers.

Do these parking rates include VAT?

AASL publishes these as the amounts payable at the barrier and the lobby counter, and neither page states a tax-exclusive figure. This calculator reproduces the published number and adds nothing to it. If a receipt shows a different figure, ask the counter for the current tariff sheet.

Does this cover Mattala or Ratmalana airports?

No. AASL's pages for Mattala Rajapaksa International Airport and Colombo International Airport, Ratmalana publish no parking or lobby rate rows, so there is nothing to transcribe. Rather than invent a figure for them, this calculator covers BIA Katunayake only.

How it works

Airport and Aviation Services (Sri Lanka) Ltd, which operates BIA, publishes its full car park tariff and its lobby rates as two tables on airport.lk. Every figure in this calculator is a transcription of a cell in those tables — nothing is averaged, estimated or carried over from another airport. AASL uses three different pricing shapes across its seven car parks, and mixing them up is where most of the figures circulating online go wrong.

1. The stepped parks

Terminal Car Park No. 1 and New Departure Car Park No. 4 charge a first-hour rate, a different second-hour rate, then a flat rate for the third hour and each hour after it. With b as the number of started hours:

cost = r1 + (b ≥ 2 ? r2 : 0) + (b > 2 ? r3 × (b − 2) : 0)

For a car, (r1, r2, r3) is (Rs 350, Rs 250, Rs 150); for a van, double cab or jeep it is (Rs 500, Rs 300, Rs 200).

2. The block parks

Remote Car Park No. 2, BOI Car Park No. 3, Car Park No. 05 and the Air Cargo Village car park charge one flat fee covering a block of hours, then a per-hour rate on the time past it. The block is never subdivided — only the overflow rounds up:

The block is three hours at parks 2, 3 and 05, and six, eight or ten hours at the Air Cargo Village depending on the vehicle. A car pays Rs 200 for the first three hours and Rs 50 for each hour after that.

3. The Coach Park

A single published entry charge of Rs 600, with no hourly element at all. The calculator says so rather than pretending to meter a coach. The annual Coach Pass and Apron Pass are shown further down as reference figures, because they are not a function of one stay.

Started hours, and the lobby

Every band in the tariff carries the words “or part thereof”, so time is counted in started hours: a 2 hour 20 minute wait bills as three. To keep that rounding exact, the calculator works in whole minutes rather than fractional hours, which removes any question about what happens at a boundary — a stay of exactly three hours in a block park pays the block fee and nothing more, and one minute later it pays one additional hour.

Lobby charges are separate from, and additive to, the parking charge. Arrival lobby entry is Rs 500 per person, departure lobby entry is Rs 500 per person, and a page-in board is Rs 300 per board — all per head or per board, never per vehicle. AASL publishes these as the amounts payable at the barrier and the counter and states no tax-exclusive figure, so nothing is added on top. No daily maximum is published for any car park, so a long stay keeps accruing.
