The unit prints a course fee of Rs 180,000 for the whole degree, plus a Rs 15,000 registration fee. Certificate and convocation fees are charged separately and are not published in the intake notice.

No maximum registration period is published. The prospectus plans the degree for completion in three academic years.
How places are given
Under UGC Circular 01/2021 the intake is capped, so meeting the entry rule is not the same as being admitted. Applicants with a 2000-or-later A/L are ranked by Z-score, pre-2000 applicants by total marks across the four subjects, and applicants entering on another qualification by marks awarded by a panel of examiners.

An HNDIT from SLIATE is not a lateral-entry qualification — it satisfies clause A(iv) and starts at Level I.
Applying from abroad
SAARC nationals and Sri Lankans resident abroad are charged in US dollars: USD 1,040 for Level I, USD 1,275 for Level II and USD 2,340 for Level III. Other nationalities pay double those amounts.

Where the source is unclear
The enrolment notice is internally inconsistent about length: its prose says three academic years while the table immediately below it lists four years of two semesters each. The four-year table is used here because it is the specific, itemised statement, and because an Honours degree sits at SLQF Level 6. Confirm with the unit before you budget.

How it works

Entry rules for external degrees are not prose to be interpreted. They are written as a conjunction of groups of alternatives — (A₁ OR A₂ OR …) AND (B₁ OR B₂ OR …) — and this tool encodes them that way, one clause tree per programme, transcribed from the university's own page or intake PDF. The UCSC Bachelor of Information Technology is the clearest case. Its group A is the Advanced Level requirement, satisfied by any one of six alternatives: three passes at the Local A/L in one sitting (or four under the old syllabus), three passes at the Cambridge or Pearson Edexcel International A/L in one sitting, all theoretical components of the UCSC Foundation in Information Technology, an HNDIT certified by SLIATE, an NVQ Level 5 or above in IT certified by TVEC, or a Senate-recognised equivalent. Its group B is the Ordinary Level requirement: at least six passes with three credits including Mathematics and English. You are eligible when every group is satisfied, and the evaluator records which alternative fired so the page can quote it back to you.

Three answers are deliberately never guessed. A "Senate-recognised equivalent" clause depends on a decision only the university can make, so it is shown as a note rather than counted for or against you. An A/L stream of "Not sure" leaves any subject-specific rule undecided instead of resolving it in either direction. And where a stream only mightinclude the subject a rule names — a Technology-stream student who may or may not have sat Mathematics — the verdict is "needs one more answer", never a yes.

Cost is summed from published line items and never modelled:

Five of the 8programmes print their own total beside the line items it is made of, which gives the arithmetic something to be checked against. The tool adds up its line items and compares — over exactly the fee kinds that printed total covers, since the UCSC's Level I total of Rs 50,000deliberately excludes the application processing fee and Sri Jayewardenepura's course-fee totals exclude the registration fee charged beside them. All 5 reconcile exactly; if one ever stopped reconciling, the page would say so rather than print a total it could not defend.

Duration is the university's published maximum where one exists, not an average — three years per academic level for the BIT, nine years from first registration for the Colombo B.Sc. (External) degrees — and is stated as "not published" where the university does not publish one. Matching programmes are then filtered by field, medium and budget, and ranked cheapest first, then shortest, so "which is the cheapest one I can do?" is answered on the page rather than left as an exercise.

Each award's SLQF level is read from the same SLQF 2016 table that backs the SLQF level checker, rather than re-transcribed here: a three-year general degree sits at Level 5 and a four-year honours degree at Level 6, and the card says whether the university stated the level itself or it was derived.

A programme appears here only if its entry rule and its fee schedule could be read from an official university page on 2026-09-24. Each row carries its own source URL. Programmes that could not clear that bar — the University of Kelaniya's external degrees among them — are left out, and the omissions are listed in the sources section below rather than filled in from memory.

Chamodi — three A/L passes in one sitting

  5. Mathematics and hers is an ordinary pass → group B fails
  6. Verdict: blocked by two clauses, listed separately
