Sri Lanka Highway Entrance Finder — Nearest Interchange

“Which highway entrance do I use?” is a different question from “what is the toll?”, and it is answered from a different table. The toll is a gazetted point-to-point figure between two interchanges you have already chosen. The entrance is a geography question: which interchange is the official access point for the place you are starting from. This page answers the second one and hands the first to the tool that owns it.

The lookup runs in three tiers. A town you search is first matched against each interchange's list of towns it is the named access point for — Pinnaduwa for Galle, Welipenna for Mathugama, Kaduwela for Malabe. Those are ranked first. Alongside them come the interchanges standing in the same administrative district, which is the wider set a driver would still consider. Only when neither tier returns anything does the search widen to the neighbouring districts, so a Colombo search does not list half the Southern Expressway.

Ranking inside a tier uses the best evidence available and nothing weaker. Where the RDA point-to-point road-distance schedule contains both your town and the town the interchange stands in, the leg is the shortest-path total over that schedule's toll-free A and B road segments — the road to an entrance is by definition not on the expressway, so the expressway segments are excluded. Where the schedule does not hold both ends, no kilometre figure is shown at all. It is never interpolated, never straight-line, never estimated. Those cards are ordered instead by how far along the route they sit from the interchange named for your town: for Galle that reads Pinnaduwa (km 95), Baddegama (81), Imaduwa (110), Kurundugahahetekma (64).

The toll preview on each card is the RDA figure to the far end of that expressway in the direction you chose, and it is computed by the expressway toll calculator's own function rather than re-derived here: toll = roundTo50(|cum[exit] − cum[entry]| × classMultiplier), where cumis the cumulative Class-1 base toll from the route start and the multipliers are the RDA plaza classes — 1.0× for Class 1 up to 4.0× for Class 5. One dataset, one module: no interchange, km post, toll or road distance is defined in this page's data file. It adds exactly four facts per interchange — the district it stands in, the road it is joined from, the towns it serves, and the road-table town used to measure the leg.

Direction of travel reorders nothing. Every interchange in Sri Lanka takes traffic both ways, so the entrance you use never depends on where you are going; the setting only decides which end of the expressway the toll preview is quoted to. An interchange on a section that is not open to traffic is never offered as an answer — it appears in a separate warning instead, because sending a driver to a building site is the worst mistake this page could make.

Six trips were computed by hand from the gazetted cumulative schedule before any code was written, then re-run through the shared toll module. The page renders the comparison rather than claiming it.

All six trips reconcile to the rupee. Access facts cover 30 of 30 interchanges in the shared dataset.

The Colombo–Katunayake Expressway (E03) is not yet in that dataset, so its interchanges — including Katunayake for the airport — are not listed above. Rows marked “pending re-check” are named in the dataset but their access road has not been confirmed against a cited source.
