Sri Lanka NDT Eligibility Checker — ITUM Moratuwa, 2026/2027 Intake

This is a rules engine, not a predictor. Every branch it takes comes from ITUM's Gazette Notification for the 2026/2027 National Diploma in Technology intake, and every yes and no it gives you is labelled with the clause that produced it. The gazette is a scanned PDF with no text layer, which is why the aggregator blogs paraphrase it and why their paraphrases disagree.

The four gates

1. Age — clause 2.1.1. You must be below 24 years of age on 31.12.2025. The tool works out your completed age on that fixed date by calendar walk, then verifies the answer a second way: “below 24 on 31.12.2025” is the same statement as “born on or after 01.01.2002”, and the two derivations have to agree before a verdict is shown. That is what the “checked two ways” line under the checklist means.
2. Existing registration — clause 2.1.3. A candidate already registered as a full-time student of a UGC university, or of a higher-education institute under the Ministry of Higher Education, cannot apply. The Open University of Sri Lanka is named as the exception, so an OUSL registration passes this gate.
3. A/L subjects — clause 2.2.1. Passes (A, B, C or S on the Department of Examinations scale) in Physics and Chemistry and Combined Mathematics or Higher Mathematics, all obtained at one and the same sitting of an examination held by the Commissioner General of Examinations in 2023, 2024, 2025. The tool runs this as three separate sub-checks — sitting year, single-sitting rule, subject passes — so a rejection tells you which one failed rather than just failing.
4. O/L English — clause 2.2.2. A credit pass (C or better) in English Language at O/L, required for Marine Engineering Technology and Nautical Studies only. This is the one gate that does not close everything: fail it and the eight Set 2 fields stay open.

Why there is no “Set 1 only” answer

Set 1 asks for everything Set 2 asks for, plus the clause 2.2.2 English credit. So no profile exists that opens the two maritime fields while closing the other eight. The tool has three real verdicts — both sets, Set 2 only, or nothing — and says so rather than displaying a state that cannot occur.

What it deliberately does not do

It does not predict a cut-off. ITUM publishes no per-field NDT cut-off Z-score, so any figure would be invention dressed as arithmetic. The Z-score and district fields are optional, feed the selection-path explainer below, and never touch the verdict. Field allocation is equally out of reach: it depends on aptitude-test marks and on the whole cohort's preference lists, neither of which is knowable from one applicant's answers.

The fee it quotes

Clause 5.1.1 charges Rs 1,000 for one set and Rs 1,200 for both, non-refundable either way. Clause 4.1.5 adds Rs 130of stamps on the 9″×4″ self-addressed envelope. The tool quotes the fee for the sets that are actually open to you — and quotes nothing at all when no set is, because a non-refundable fee paid against a barred application is money gone.

This is the single most-misreported part of NDT admission, so it is stated here rather than applied silently.

Under the older notice a candidate could drop one of the four. Under the 2026/2027 notice Physics and Chemistry are both compulsory and a mathematics paper — Combined or Higher — is compulsory alongside them.

A no here is not the end of a technical career. The two routes most NDT applicants qualify for instead are the SLIATE Higher National Diploma programmes at the 19 Advanced Technological Institutes, which accept Biology and Commerce streams the NDT gazette does not, and the full state-university intake, which you can test against your own results with the university course eligibility checker.

Eligibility only buys you the right to sit the aptitude test. What follows is published in clauses 3.1, 3.2 and 6, and none of it is computed by this tool. 1. 3.1Shortlisting for the aptitude test

   Applicants who meet the clause 2 requirements are shortlisted to sit ITUM's aptitude test, on A/L performance, under the same merit and district quota split used for the final selection.

2. 3.2The aptitude test itself

   The test is held by ITUM and must be passed. The medium — Sinhala, Tamil or English — is fixed when you apply and cannot be changed afterwards. ITUM publishes no syllabus for it.

3. 6Ranking of those who pass

   Everyone who passes the aptitude test is ranked in merit order of the A/L Z-score for the sitting year named on the application. Places are then filled 40% on island-wide merit and 60% on the district quota.

4. 6How your district is decided

   From the schools you attended in Grades 11, 12 and 13 — not from where you live now. Private candidates declare a district on the application form.

5. 6Which field you actually get

   Field allocation uses your aptitude test marks together with the order of field preferences you wrote on the form. Order them honestly: a preference list is the one part of this process entirely within your control.

If you are selected, ITUM asks for these as originals. Chasing a character certificate from a school you left three years ago is the one that catches people out, so start it early.
