When it arrives
Emailed to the address on your order once we have confirmed the payment, by a person rather than automatically. In practice that is usually the same day and almost always within one working day. If sourcing a particular voucher is going to take longer, we tell you rather than leaving the order sitting.
How long it stays valid
12 months from purchase. Book and sit the exam before it expires, a code that has simply run out of time cannot be replaced, so do not buy months ahead of when you plan to use it.
How you redeem it
Book the exam with Pearson VUE as normal, then enter this code at the payment step instead of paying the fee. You choose the date, and whether you sit it at a test centre or from home with OnVUE proctoring.
If the code does not work
If the vendor rejects it when you try to redeem it, tell us straight away and we replace it or refund you in full. Contact us before the voucher’s own expiry date.
If you do not pass
A voucher covers one attempt. A retake needs a new voucher, and the vendor, not us, sets how long you must wait before sitting the exam again. Check the vendor’s retake policy before you book.
Changing your mind
Full refund for any reason as long as we have not yet sent the code, including if you realise you have ordered the wrong exam, which is easy to do when codes look alike. Unscored 'Emerging Topics' pretest questions may appear on designing security and responsible AI controls — content filtering and regulatory compliance controls for generative AI (for example Amazon Bedrock Guardrails), access controls for generative and agentic AI applications (for example AgentCore Identity), and human oversight workflows with approval mechanisms (for example AWS Step Functions). AWS states these do not affect your score.
Explicitly out of scope for the target candidate: frontend development for mobile apps, 12-factor app methodology, and in-depth knowledge of operating systems
Where it leads
The Professional-level architect certification is the senior AWS design credential, and the one that consultancies and systems integrators put forward during client bids. AWS frames it around four things employers can then assume: designing for organisational complexity, designing new solutions, continuously improving existing ones, and accelerating workload migration and modernisation. Because of the two-plus years of design experience AWS describes for the target candidate, it reads as evidence of delivery history rather than study effort.
Sitting this exam in Sri Lanka
There is a timing problem specific to buying this now: AWS's own pages put the last day for SAP-C02 at 16 or 17 November 2026 depending on which page you read, and AWS states that exam voucher expiration dates cannot be extended. Anyone buying should confirm they can schedule and sit before that cut-off, or wait for the SAP-C03 listing. Either version can be taken from Sri Lanka online-proctored, or at a Pearson VUE test centre — the Pearson VUE scheduler shows which centres are currently open. AWS lists this exam at 300 USD, so booking directly leaves the rupee cost exposed to the exchange rate on the day; the local voucher is {{PRICE}} and fixes it up front.

How long is SAP-C02 and how many questions are there?
180 minutes for 75 questions. 65 of those are scored and 10 are unscored pretest items that are not identified during the exam. Three hours for 75 long scenario questions works out at roughly two and a half minutes each, which is why time management matters as much as knowledge here.
What is the passing score for SAP-C02, and is it different from the associate exam?
750 on a 100–1,000 scale. That is higher than the 720 required for the associate-level Solutions Architect exam. Scoring is compensatory, so a weak domain can be offset by a strong one — you only need to clear 750 overall.
Do I need to pass the Associate exam first?
AWS does not list a prerequisite certification for this exam. What its exam guide does state is that the target candidate has two or more years of experience using AWS services to design and implement cloud solutions, so the barrier is experience rather than a certificate you must already hold.
Is SAP-C02 being replaced?
Yes. Registration for SAP-C03 opens on 27 October 2026 and SAP-C03 goes to general availability on 17 November 2026. AWS's certification page says the last day to take SAP-C02 is 17 November 2026 while its September 2026 blog post says 16 November 2026 — plan around the earlier date. If you are buying a voucher now, make sure you can schedule and sit before then, because AWS states that voucher expiration dates cannot be extended.
What is different in the four exam domains?
Design for New Solutions is the heaviest at 29% of scored content, then Design Solutions for Organizational Complexity at 26%, Continuous Improvement for Existing Solutions at 25% and Accelerate Workload Migration and Modernization at 20%. You may also see unscored pretest questions on security and responsible AI controls — those do not count towards your result.
If I fail, how soon can I retake it?
AWS requires a 14 calendar-day wait before you are eligible to retake, and you pay the full registration fee again. There is no limit on attempts. Given the mid-November SAP-C02 cut-off, a failed attempt in early November leaves no room for a retake on the same exam version.
