AI Avatar Video Cost Calculator (USD + LKR)
Compare what AI avatar and talking-head videos cost on Synthesia, HeyGen, D-ID, Colossyan, and Hedra — normalised to an effective cost per minute, in both US dollars and Sri Lankan rupees, with an optional 18% VAT line. Enter your monthly minutes; no signup, no card.
How it works
Every avatar-video platform prices differently — some sell a fixed number of minutes per month, others sell credits you spend per generation. To compare them fairly, this calculator normalises each one to a single effective cost per minute, then applies your monthly volume to all of them.
1. Normalise to USD per minute
For a plan with monthly price P (at the selected billing cycle) and M minutes of video included, the effective rate is rate = P ÷ M. A platform's headline rate is the lowest such rate across its priced tiers — the cheapest per-minute you can actually achieve there. Annual billing uses the annual price divided by twelve, which is why switching the cycle to annual lowers every rate.
2. Scale by your minutes
From the per-minute rate the tool computes, in order:
- monthly_usd = rate × minutes_needed
- monthly_lkr = monthly_usd × usd_to_lkr_rate
- vat_lkr = monthly_lkr × 0.18 (only when the VAT toggle is on)
- total_lkr = monthly_lkr + vat_lkr
- per_video = monthly_usd ÷ videos (when videos > 0)
3. Check the best-fit plan
The per-minute figure is a pay-as-you-go view. Because platforms sell minutes in fixed tiers, the tool also finds the cheapest single plan whose included minutes actually cover your volume — the best-fit plan. If no published tier covers your minutes (for example 40 minutes on a platform whose largest standard plan includes 30), the row is labelled “Enterprise — contact sales” instead of inventing a price.
4. Convert to rupees
The LKR figure is the raw conversion at the Central Bank of Sri Lanka daily indicative rate (default Rs 305/USD, editable). That is the mid-market reference, not the rate your card charges — banks add an FX markup of roughly 1–4% plus gateway fees, so the real rupee debit runs a little higher. The optional 18% VAT line is Sri Lanka's standard rate on electronic services supplied by non-residents. Every plan price and minute allowance is a representative early-2026 estimate; the data module ships a verifyWorkedExamples() function that recomputes the examples below and asserts the totals.
