Sri Lanka Airport Taxi Price List, BIA Katunayake Fare Calculator
The official AASL fare from Colombo airport to any of 442 destinations. Fixed prices, no meter, every figure cited.
How it works
Airport and Aviation Services (Sri Lanka) Ltd, which runs Bandaranaike International Airport, operates the airport taxi service itself and publishes a fixed air-conditioned fare for every destination it serves. There is no meter, no per-kilometre rate inside the journey and nothing to negotiate. Every rupee figure on this page is a transcription of a cell on that card, read in full on 2026-10-03.
The card is hard to find for a reason. It is not written into the AASL page you land on: that page fires a form post to taxi_query and renders whichever letter group you ask for, so no search engine has ever seen the table and no PDF of it exists. All 442rows were pulled from that endpoint, letter group by letter group, and are held in this page's data module.
Pricing a trip is then three steps, and the second and third are AASL's own words:
- Read the fixed fare for the destination. Fares run from Rs 3,780 to Rs 72,468, with a median of Rs 19,872. The code beside each one is what the counter staff key in, which is why the calculator prints it.
- Add Rs 130 for each extra kilometre:
Rs. 130/- will be charged for each extra kilometer travelled from the requested destination.
- Add Rs 300 for each extra set-down point:
Rs. 300/- will be charged for each extra drop within the agreed journey
So the whole formula is total = fixed fare + extra km x 130 + extra drops x 300. Both surcharges are per vehicle, not per head, so the number of passengers never changes the taxi total. The calculator collects it only to price the two official AASL buses, where the fare genuinely is per person: Rs 325 to Colombo Fort on Route 187 and Rs 410 to the Makumbura Multimodal Centre, each plus the same amount again for every bag over 23 kg.
Two judgement calls are worth stating plainly. First, AASL publishes no part-kilometre rule, so a fractional entry rounds up to the next whole unit: that is the figure to carry to the counter rather than one that can only be an under-estimate. Inputs are also capped at 100 extra kilometres and 5 extra drops, because beyond that a trip is a charter negotiation rather than a rate-card fare. Second, each bus runs to one terminus, so the comparison table calls a bus a true alternative only where that terminus is your destination: Route 187 at Colombo Fort, the Makumbura service at Kottawa. Everywhere else the gap between the two figures is labelled as the price of a door drop, never as a saving you are missing.
The arithmetic is checked two ways on every build. The headline figure multiplies the surcharges; a second function walks them one kilometre and one drop at a time, sharing no arithmetic with the first, and 11 hand-computed cases are replayed through both. Those cases include the floor and ceiling rows, zero, negative, fractional and absurdly large inputs, and the exact input limits. The breakdown lines are also summed and compared with the headline total, so the figures a reader is shown always add up to the figure they will pay. Anything that disagrees stops the build.
What is deliberately absent: Uber and PickMe prices, which AASL links to but does not publish; night, waiting and return-trip rates, which do not appear on the card; non air-conditioned fares, because the table has a single air-conditioned column; and Mattala, Ratmalana, Jaffna and Batticaloa, because AASL publishes this card for BIA alone. Driving distances and journey times belong to the road distance calculator rather than being restated here.
