Sri Lanka Police Salary Calculator 2026
Pick a rank and a salary step. You get the basic actually paid this year under Circular 10/2025, the amount still withheld, and the gazetted police allowances.
Sri Lanka Police salary by rank, paid in 2026
The first step of each rank's conversion table, basic salary only, no allowances. Officer ranks are shown on Grade III, the lowest grade the circular publishes for SL 1-2025. Every figure is computed by the calculator above, not typed in.

How it works
Police pay is set by the same circular that revised every central government salary: Public Administration Circular 10/2025, dated 25 March 2025. Four of its parts matter, and the calculator applies them in order.
Step 1: rank to salary code
Schedule I, on PDF page 16, lists the Sri Lanka Police posts against salary codes. Five ranks sit on their own code, RS 1 to RS 5. The Sergeant Major and the Sub Inspector share RS 3-2025, so they are paid identically at the same step. The five gazetted officer ranks from Assistant Superintendent to Senior Deputy Inspector General all share SL 1-2025, and the Inspector General alone is on SL 3-2025. You never have to know your code: the rank selector resolves it.
Step 2: the basic at your step
Schedule II prints each code as a segmented arithmetic progression, for example RS 1-2025 as 49,550 - 7 x 540 - 27 x 670 - 71,420. Step 1 is the initial, the next seven steps add Rs 540 each and the twenty-seven after that add Rs 670, reaching the maximum of Rs 71,420 at step 35. The calculator walks those segments, and page 53 of the circular prints the resulting figure for every step of RS 1 to RS 5, which is what pins the segment boundaries down. A boundary read one step late would put every figure above it out by Rs 130.
Step 3: what is actually paid this year
This is the part that surprises people. Paragraph 3.8 pays the rise in three stages, and Schedule III prints the result per rank and per step as a Paid Amount and a Monthly Unpaid Amount at 1 January 2025, 2026 and 2027. The arithmetic, in the circular's own order:
- Paragraph 3.8.1: take the difference between the basic received as at 31 December 2024 and the new basic entitled from 1 January 2025.
- Paragraph 3.8.2: deduct Rs 7,500 a month, being the Rs 2,500 interim allowance of Circular 09/2019 and the Rs 5,000 allowance of Circular 03/2022. Paragraph 02 folds both into the new basic and paragraph 4.1 stops paying them separately from 1 April 2025, so they were already in hand. What is left is the net increase.
- Paragraph 3.8.3: release Rs 5,000 of the net increase in full, then 30% of the remainder from 1 January 2025, 65% from 1 January 2026 and the whole of it from 1 January 2027. The complement is the Monthly Unpaid Amount, which the circular rounds down to the rupee.
A Constable at step 1 therefore reads Rs 49,550 on the gazette and sees Rs 46,922 credited in 2026. The missing Rs 2,628 is not an error; it is 35% of the part of the net increase above the Rs 5,000 floor, and it arrives in January 2027.
Step 4: allowances
Paragraph 4.2.4 replaced the police special allowance of 40% of salary with Rs 1,250 a month plus 22% of salary. Paragraph 4.2 is explicit about the base: the percentage is calculated on the salary indicated in Schedule II, so on the full revised basic and not on the phased amount. Paragraph 06 continues the cost of living allowance of Public Administration Circular 03/2024, which is Rs 17,800 a month and is not rank linked. Arduous duty, uniform cleaning and food and lodging are published in the Police Constable Scheme of Recruitment, so the tool offers them for that post alone and labels each line with its source.
How the figures were checked
Paragraph 3.8 is applied by the engine already reconciled against all 1,998 rows of Schedule III for the government salary increase calculator, imported here rather than restated. On top of that, every figure the circular prints for the police codes is recomputed and compared: 1,038 figures across 173 salary steps and 9 conversion tables, with no mismatches. Each scale is also walked by two independent routes that must agree at every step. Those checks run when the page renders: all three pass. One real disagreement inside the circular is worth knowing about: Schedule II writes SL 1-2025 as a single career ladder, but the Schedule III grade tables keep each grade's own increment past its boundaries, so at step 12 the string gives Rs 109,090 where the Grade III table prints Rs 108,550. The grade tables win, because they are the columns the Paid amounts are computed from, and the tool says so on screen whenever the two differ.
Worked examples
Rank to salary code, and the published scales
Schedule I of Public Administration Circular 10/2025, PDF page 16, reordered lowest rank first. The scale strings are Schedule II, page 33.
| Rank | Salary code | Who holds it |
|---|---|---|
| Police Constable | RS 1-2025 | The entry rank, and the one the open recruitment gazette advertises. |
| Police Sergeant | RS 2-2025 | Promotion from Constable; Schedule III starts its table at step 9. |
| Sergeant Major | RS 3-2025 | Shares RS 3-2025, and its conversion table, with the Sub Inspector. |
| Sub Inspector of Police | RS 3-2025 | Direct entry on the Sub Inspector gazette, or promotion from Sergeant. |
| Inspector of Police | RS 4-2025 | Schedule III converts steps 11 to 34 of this code. |
| Chief Inspector of Police | RS 5-2025 | The top of the RS ladder; above it the ranks move onto SL 1-2025. |
| Assistant Superintendent of Police | SL 1-2025 | Gazetted officer entry rank, on the combined SL 1-2025 scale. |
| Superintendent of Police | SL 1-2025 | Same salary code as the ASP; the grade on your letter sets the ladder. |
| Senior Superintendent of Police | SL 1-2025 | Same salary code again; Schedule I names no grade per rank. |
| Deputy Inspector General of Police | SL 1-2025 | On SL 1-2025, normally at the Grade I end of the scale. |
| Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police | SL 1-2025 | The highest rank still on SL 1-2025. |
| Inspector General of Police | SL 3-2025 | The only police rank on SL 3-2025, a 13 step scale of its own. |
The seven police salary scales
| Code | Scale (Schedule II) | Steps | Maximum |
|---|---|---|---|
| RS 1-2025 | 49,550 - 7 x 540 - 27 x 670 - 71,420 | 35 | Rs 71,420 |
| RS 2-2025 | 54,000 - 9 x 670 - 17 x 890 - 75,160 | 27 | Rs 75,160 |
| RS 3-2025 | 55,410 - 7 x 670 - 2 x 890 - 25 x 1,190 - 91,630 | 35 | Rs 91,630 |
| RS 4-2025 | 63,070 - 24 x 1,190 - 91,630 | 25 | Rs 91,630 |
| RS 5-2025 | 72,800 - 17 x 1,400 - 96,600 | 18 | Rs 96,600 |
| SL 1-2025 | 82,150 - 10 x 2,400 - 8 x 2,940 - 17 x 3,900 - 195,970 | 36 | Rs 195,970 |
| SL 3-2025 | 156,000 - 12 x 4,850 - 214,200 | 13 | Rs 214,200 |
Schedule III converts 9tables across these codes, and at most 24 steps in each. The calculator's step list is exactly that published range; the full scale is on its second tab.

The circular was read page by page on 2026-10-15 and every police figure on this page comes from it. The police.lk Scheme of Recruitment is a scan with no text layer, so the three Constable-only allowance figures were read from the gazette text rather than machine extracted; the special allowance and the cost of living allowance are confirmed independently from paragraphs 4.2.4 and 06 of the circular itself.
