Sri Lanka Upwork Fee Calculator
See exactly what you keep from an Upwork contract after the 10% service fee and your withdrawal fee — then converted to Sri Lankan rupees at your own rate. No signup, no ads, every fee sourced from Upwork below.
How it works
The calculator applies Upwork's published fee structure in the exact order the money leaves your account, then converts the remainder to rupees at the rate you enter. Every figure is in US dollars until the final LKR step, because that is how Upwork holds and deducts your balance.
- Service fee. Upwork takes a freelancer service fee of
earnings × 10%by default. The rate is disclosed on each proposal and can be set anywhere from 0% to 15%, so the field is editable — but 10% is the standard rate almost every freelancer sees, and it is fixed for the life of a contract once accepted. - Withdrawal fee. When you move the balance out, Upwork charges a fixed fee by method: $0.99 for Direct to Local Bank, $50 for a USD wire, and $0 for PayPal and Payoneer. This is subtracted from what is left after the service fee.
- Convert to rupees. The net USD is multiplied by your USD-to-LKR rate. There is no live exchange-rate call in this version — you enter the rate your own bank or remittance service gives you, because that is what determines the actual rupees credited.
- Effective fee. The tool also reports the combined bite as
(earnings − withdrawn) ÷ earnings, which is always a little above 10% because the withdrawal fee sits on top of the service fee. This number is what lets you compare methods honestly — a flat $50 wire is barely noticeable on a $5,000 payout but eats 30% of a $250 one.
Every result is verified internally by reconstruction: the net take-home is rebuilt from the individual fee pieces and checked against the subtracted figure, so the two methods must agree to the cent. What the tool does not model is deliberate — client-side marketplace fees, the cost of Connects, downstream PayPal or Payoneer conversion charges, and income tax are all out of scope so the take-home number stays exact and stable. PayPal and Payoneer show a $0 Upwork fee, but the tool flags that their own conversion fees still apply.
