If the code does not work

If you do not pass
A voucher covers one attempt. A retake needs a new voucher, and the vendor, not us, sets how long you must wait before sitting the exam again. Check the vendor’s retake policy before you book.

It is also the practical gate to the rest of the ladder: the NSE 5 and NSE 6 product exams assume FortiOS knowledge at this level, and Fortinet's own course prerequisites for products like FortiAuthenticator are written as "an understanding of the topics covered in FortiOS 7.6 Administrator course, or have equivalent experience". NSE 4 is also one of the few levels Fortinet gives a recertification assessment SKU to — the NSE 5 and NSE 6 product certifications show "N/A" in that column, so re-sitting is the route there.

Fortinet NSE 4 - FortiOS 7.6 Administrator exam fee and questions people ask
How long is the NSE 4 exam and how many questions does it have?
Fortinet lists the exam at 100 minutes with 50-55 questions. Your Pearson VUE appointment is longer than the exam itself — Fortinet adds 15 minutes of non-testing time, 5 minutes for general exam information and acceptance of the Candidate Agreement at the start and 10 minutes for an exit survey at the end.
What score do I need to pass?
Fortinet does not publish a passing percentage for this exam. The result is reported as pass or fail, and a score report is available from your Pearson VUE account afterwards. Fortinet's certification page does state the scoring method: "Answers must be 100% correct to receive credit. No partial credit is awarded, and there are no deductions for incorrect answers." Questions are multiple choice and drag-and-drop.
Which FortiOS version does the current exam cover?
FortiOS 7.6.0. This matters because Fortinet retires exam versions: the earlier FCP - FortiGate 7.4 Administrator exam is shown on the same page as available only until 30 September 2025. Fortinet has NSE 4 - FortiOS 8.0 Administrator on its upcoming-release list for early October 2026, and it states that a previous version's last delivery date is generally four months after a new one is released.
Do I need to pass anything else before booking NSE 4?
No. Fortinet enforces no prerequisite exam. It recommends 1-2 years of networking experience, 0-1 year of network security experience, and at least 6 months of hands-on FortiGate time, but nothing blocks you from registering without them.
Can I sit this exam online from Sri Lanka?
Yes. Fortinet confirmed that NSE 4, NSE 5 and NSE 6 exams stay available through both OnVUE remote proctoring and Pearson VUE test centres. The OnVUE withdrawal announced for 21 September 2026 applies only to NSE 7 exams, not to NSE 4.
What happens if I fail, and can I retake it?
Fortinet requires you to wait 15 consecutive days after a failed attempt before retaking the same exam. Once you have passed an exam you cannot sit it again — Pearson VUE blocks registration for exams you have already passed.
How long does the certification stay valid?
Fortinet states that all NSE certifications are active for two years from the date the certification requirements are fulfilled, and that expiration dates cannot be extended. NSE 4 is one of the few levels Fortinet lists a recertification assessment SKU for, so you can renew by assessment as well as by re-sitting the exam.
How long is the voucher itself valid once I buy it?
Fortinet's voucher expiration policy states that NSE exam vouchers are valid for 365 days from issue, and that the validity date cannot be extended. You cannot schedule or reschedule an exam for a date after the voucher expires, so book inside that year.
