If the code does not work

If you do not pass
A voucher covers one attempt. A retake needs a new voucher, and the vendor, not us, sets how long you must wait before sitting the exam again. Check the vendor’s retake policy before you book.

Pearson VUE's published Microsoft price list puts Sri Lanka at 58 USD for a role-based exam like DP-700, with a 32 USD academic rate for students and educators, against 165 USD and 91 USD for the same exam proctored in the United States. Microsoft delivers exams at a Pearson VUE test centre or online to your home or office under OnVUE proctoring, and notes online exams are available in most but not all countries and regions, so confirm availability with Pearson VUE when you book. The exam is not offered in Sinhala or Tamil; if it is not available in your preferred language, Microsoft's study guide says you can request an additional 30 minutes.

Is DP-700 the exam to take now that DP-203 is gone?
Yes, for the data engineering role. Microsoft retired DP-203 and the Azure Data Engineer Associate certification on 31 March 2025, and DP-700 is its live data engineering exam. It is not a renamed version though — DP-203 tested Azure Synapse, Data Factory and Stream Analytics, while DP-700 tests Microsoft Fabric, OneLake, Dataflows Gen2, Eventstreams and KQL.
How is the exam weighted?
Evenly. Implementing and managing an analytics solution, ingesting and transforming data, and monitoring and optimizing an analytics solution are each worth 30-35%. There is no group you can afford to skip.
How long is DP-700 and what score passes?
100 minutes of exam time, with 120 minutes of seat time per Microsoft's duration table for an associate exam without labs, and a scaled passing score of 700 out of 1,000. Microsoft does not publish a fixed question count, stating that most of its certification exams typically contain 40 to 60 questions.
What languages do I need to know for it?
Microsoft expects you to manipulate and transform data using SQL, PySpark and KQL. The objectives cover transforming data in all three, plus choosing between Dataflows Gen2, notebooks, KQL and T-SQL for a given transformation.
Are there any prerequisites?
No. Microsoft's DP-700 page lists no prerequisite. DP-900 is useful groundwork if you are new to data concepts, and Microsoft confirms DP-900 is not a prerequisite for any role-based certification.
If I fail, how long before I can retake it?
24 hours before the second attempt, then 14 days before each further attempt, capped at five attempts in the 12 months from your first sitting. Microsoft states you must pay to retake the exam.
Does the certification need renewing?
Yes. Microsoft's renewal page states that associate, expert and specialty certifications are renewed annually and that renewals are free — a short, unproctored, open-book assessment on Microsoft Learn, taken within a six-month eligibility window before expiry.
