How long it stays valid
12 months from purchase. Book and sit the exam before it expires, a code that has simply run out of time cannot be replaced, so do not buy months ahead of when you plan to use it.
How you redeem it
Book the exam with Pearson VUE as normal, then enter this code at the payment step instead of paying the fee. You choose the date, and whether you sit it at a test centre or from home with OnVUE proctoring.
If the code does not work
If the vendor rejects it when you try to redeem it, tell us straight away and we replace it or refund you in full. Contact us before the voucher’s own expiry date.
If you do not pass
A voucher covers one attempt. A retake needs a new voucher, and the vendor, not us, sets how long you must wait before sitting the exam again. Check the vendor’s retake policy before you book.
Changing your mind
Full refund for any reason as long as we have not yet sent the code, including if you realise you have ordered the wrong exam, which is easy to do when codes look alike. Sitting this exam in Sri Lanka
This is a short, non-technical certification sat through Pearson VUE, which makes it one of the more accessible Microsoft credentials for managers in Sri Lanka who are not from an engineering background. Neither Sinhala nor Tamil is among the thirteen languages offered, so it is sat in English here; Microsoft's study guide states that if the exam is not available in your preferred language you can request an additional 30 minutes. Microsoft prices exams by the country or region in which the exam is proctored, and this voucher is settled in rupees rather than on a foreign-currency card. It suits team and department heads whose organisations are rolling out Microsoft 365 Copilot.

The exam is proctored and Microsoft notes you may have interactive components to complete as part of it. Allow more than 45 minutes in your day — Microsoft's seat time also covers reading instructions, accepting the candidate agreement and leaving comments afterwards.
Do I need to be technical or write code?
No. Microsoft states that candidates are 'not expected to write any code'. The assumed background is business rather than engineering: familiarity with Microsoft 365 services, Microsoft Foundry and general AI capabilities, plus real experience leading adoption or change management in a business context. Roughly a fifth of the exam is adoption and governance strategy — adoption teams, champions programmes and AI councils.
What is weighted heaviest on the exam?
Two areas carry 35-40% each: identifying the business value of generative AI solutions, and identifying the benefits, capabilities and opportunities of Microsoft's AI apps and services. Implementation and adoption strategy is the smallest at 20-25%. So the bulk of your preparation belongs on value cases, model and tool selection, and Copilot and Foundry Tools capabilities rather than on rollout mechanics.
Does passing AB-731 let me sit the expert AB-100 exam?
It does not count as the prerequisite. Microsoft's AB-100 page lists fifteen qualifying associate certifications — MB-280, PL-200, MB-330, PL-400, MB-230, MB-310, MB-500, MB-800, MB-820, AI-300, AI-103, AB-620, AB-210, AB-410 and AB-250 — and AB-731 is not among them, despite claims to the contrary on several exam-prep sites. You can still sit AB-100, but the expert certification will not be awarded until you hold one of the fifteen.
Does this certification expire?
Microsoft has not published a renewal rule for this specific credential, so we will not state a validity period we cannot verify. Microsoft's general rule is that associate, expert and specialty certifications expire annually and are renewed free online, while Fundamentals certifications do not expire. This one is classified Beginner and is named under neither heading — check the expiry date shown against the credential in your Microsoft Learn profile after you pass.
What score do I need, and what if I fail?
Microsoft's AB-731 study guide states that a score of 700 or greater is required to pass, on a 1 to 1,000 scale. Because the score is scaled it may not equal 70% of the points. If you fail, Microsoft's policy is that you can retake 24 hours after the first attempt; the wait varies for later attempts and each attempt needs its own voucher.
