SAA-C03: AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Associate is aimed at developers, sysadmins and architects working on cloud platforms. It sits at associate level and assumes some hands-on experience with the platform. Cloud credentials travel further than almost anything else on a Sri Lankan CV, because the platform is identical everywhere.

How long it stays valid
12 months from purchase. Book and sit the exam before it expires, a code that has simply run out of time cannot be replaced, so do not buy months ahead of when you plan to use it.
How you redeem it
Book the exam with Pearson VUE as normal, then enter this code at the payment step instead of paying the fee. You choose the date, and whether you sit it at a test centre or from home with OnVUE proctoring.
If the code does not work
If the vendor rejects it when you try to redeem it, tell us straight away and we replace it or refund you in full. Contact us before the voucher’s own expiry date.
If you do not pass
A voucher covers one attempt. A retake needs a new voucher, and the vendor, not us, sets how long you must wait before sitting the exam again. Check the vendor’s retake policy before you book.
Changing your mind
Full refund for any reason as long as we have not yet sent the code, including if you realise you have ordered the wrong exam, which is easy to do when codes look alike. Where it leads
SAA-C03 is the AWS credential most cloud engineering, DevOps and solutions-architect job descriptions name first, because it is the point at which an employer can assume you can choose between services rather than just operate one. AWS positions the certification around designing secure, resilient, high-performing and cost-optimised architectures, which is the vocabulary those job ads use. There is no formal prerequisite chain, so holding it is not required before the Professional-level exam — but the two-year experience profile AWS describes for that exam makes this the realistic stepping stone.
Sitting this exam in Sri Lanka
You can sit SAA-C03 from Sri Lanka either online-proctored from home or in person at a Pearson VUE test centre — check the Pearson VUE scheduler for which centres are currently taking bookings. AWS lists the exam at 150 USD, so paying AWS directly means your rupee cost moves with the exchange rate on the day you book; a voucher bought locally is {{PRICE}} and fixes the rupee figure before you schedule. On identification, AWS states you must provide valid government-issued identification establishing residence in a non-sanctioned country, and that if you do not have a qualifying government-issued ID from the country you are testing in, an international travel passport from your country of citizenship is required as your primary form of ID.

How long is the SAA-C03 exam and how many questions does it have?
130 minutes for 65 questions. Only 50 of those count — AWS includes 15 unscored pretest questions that are mixed in and not identified on the exam, so you cannot tell which ones they are and you should treat every question as scored. Questions are multiple choice (one right answer out of four) or multiple response (two or more right answers out of five or more options).
What score do I need to pass SAA-C03?
720 on a scaled range of 100 to 1,000. It is a scaled score, not a percentage, so it does not map cleanly to a number of correct answers. AWS uses a compensatory scoring model: you do not need a passing score in each of the four domains, only on the overall exam.
Are there prerequisites for SAA-C03?
No formal ones — you can book it as your first AWS exam. AWS's exam guide states only that the target candidate should have at least one year of hands-on experience designing cloud solutions that use AWS services.
What happens if I fail — how soon can I retake it?
AWS's policy is that you must wait 14 calendar days before you are eligible to retake, and there is no limit on exam attempts. Each attempt is a full-fee registration, so a failed sitting means buying a second voucher. Once you have passed, AWS will not let you retake the same exam for two years.
Which domains carry the most weight?
Design Secure Architectures is the largest at 30% of scored content, followed by Design Resilient Architectures at 26%, Design High-Performing Architectures at 24% and Design Cost-Optimized Architectures at 20%. Security and resilience together are more than half the scored content.
Is SAA-C03 still the current version, or is a new one coming?
SAA-C03 is current as of September 2026. AWS's September 2026 update post covered the Machine Learning Engineer (MLA-C02), Solutions Architect – Professional (SAP-C03) and Developer – Associate (DVA-C03) exams; no successor to SAA-C03 has been announced. The one dated change on the SAA-C03 page is that the Italian-language version retires after 31 December 2026 — English is unaffected.
How long does the certification last once I pass?
Three years. AWS states on the certification page that this certification is valid for 3 years.
