How it works

A certification fee reaches a Sri Lankan candidate through three layers, and the published number is only the first one. The calculator takes them in order.

Layer one, the vendor fee. Some vendors set one price worldwide. AWS states Foundational USD 100, Associate USD 150, Professional and Specialty USD 300, and adds that applicable taxes may apply and the price is valid for one exam attempt. Cisco prices CCNA 200-301 at USD 300. Google Cloud publishes USD 125 for Associate Cloud Engineer and USD 200 for its Professional exams, plus tax where applicable. The Linux Foundation charges USD 445 for CKA, CKAD and CKS, and that price covers two attempts. Other vendors price by country. Microsoft exam pages carry no figure at all, only the line “Price based on the country or region in which the exam is proctored”; the country figures live in Pearson VUE's Microsoft price list, which puts Sri Lanka at USD 44 for fundamentals and USD 58 for role-based exams. CompTIA and Red Hat also price by region but publish nothing readable, so this tool shows them with no USD figure rather than repeating a reseller's number.

Layer two, the conversion. The fee is multiplied by the USD to LKR mid rate, taken from the same stored daily series as the LKR exchange rate tool, with the rate's date shown beside the field.

Layer three, your bank. A rupee card does not get the mid rate. The bank converts at its own selling rate and may add a foreign-transaction fee, which together behave like a percentage loaded on top. That is the card margin field, and it is yours to set because banks differ. The formula is:

cost in LKR = fee in USD x attempts x rate x (1 + margin / 100)

The multiply happens once, then the result is rounded to the nearest rupee. The mid-rate line in the breakdown is rounded on its own and the margin line is the difference between the two, so the rows always add up to the total you are quoted instead of drifting by a rupee a step. As a check, the tool also converts at the mid rate and adds the margin as its own rounded line, the way a bank statement reads. Both routes have to land within one rupee of each other, and the page prints the difference so you can see it. A third check inverts the sum: dividing the rupee total back by the margin-loaded rate has to return the original USD fee.

The retake switch follows each vendor's published policy rather than doubling everything. AWS, Microsoft, Cisco, CompTIA, Red Hat and Google Cloud sell one attempt at a time, so a retake is the fee again. The Linux Foundation already includes a second attempt, so the fee does not move. CompTIA A+ is handled the other way round: it needs two different exams, Core 1 and Core 2, so a single sitting already means paying twice.

Where this site sells a voucher for the exam, its price is read live from the store at page load, never hard-coded, so a repricing shows up here the same day. The saving line appears only when the voucher actually comes out lower than paying by card. When it does not, both numbers are still shown and no saving is claimed.

Worked examples

All three use a rate of Rs 330.79 per USD, the mid rate stored for 2026-10-11, and a 3% card margin. The calculator above uses the live rate, so its figures move with the rupee.

AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner (CLF-C02)

Foundational, USD 100, one attempt

  1. Fee: USD 100 (AWS Foundational, one attempt)
  2. Mid rate: 100 x 330.79 = Rs 33,079
  3. Card margin 3%: 33,079 x 1.03 = Rs 34,071
  4. Of which the bank's margin is 34,071 - 33,079 = Rs 992
  5. Voucher on this site: Rs 9,700
  6. Saving: 34,071 - 9,700 = Rs 24,371, which is 71.5% of the card cost

AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Associate (SAA-C03)

Associate, USD 150, one attempt

  1. Fee: USD 150 (AWS Associate)
  2. Mid rate: 150 x 330.79 = Rs 49,619
  3. Card margin 3%: 49,618.50 x 1.03 = Rs 51,107
  4. Of which the bank's margin is Rs 1,488
  5. Voucher on this site: Rs 15,000
  6. Saving: Rs 36,107, which is 70.6% of the card cost
  7. Cross-check: adding the margin as its own rounded line gives Rs 51,108, one rupee out from rounding

Microsoft AZ-900, Azure Fundamentals

The edge case: a voucher that is not the cheaper route

  1. Microsoft publishes no price on the exam page: price is set by the country the exam is proctored in
  2. Pearson VUE's Microsoft price list puts Sri Lanka at USD 44 for fundamentals
  3. Mid rate: 44 x 330.79 = Rs 14,555
  4. Card margin 3%: 14,554.76 x 1.03 = Rs 14,991
  5. Voucher on this site: Rs 17,500
  6. Card cost is lower, so no saving is shown and none is claimed
  7. A voucher is still paid in rupees, which matters if your card cannot take international charges
